Hello! This is No Borders International School Toyota.
The big focus for today’s blog was the students writing their own poem based off of one of the poem’s used in this unit. We also did dictation, some phonics review as well as reading.
First we started the class off with playing a team phonics game. The students need to listen to what the teacher is saying and work together to write down not only the correct phonic sounds but also just the spelling of the word correctly.
After that we tried out a new method of doing dictation. This method is based on the game called battleship. Students would write their words down on the piece of paper with a 10 x 10 grid. Then they would guess a grid space to try and sink their opponents battle ship. We will be trying this out for our parent’s observation videos coming soon!
After this we did some reading of the previous poems to refresh ourselves on how the poems not only sound but how to read and construct them.
From there the big focus was the student’s trying to write their own poem based on the poem “On the Playground” by Wes Magae. While it was difficult the students worked hard on not only writing but illustrating their own poems.
Finally to end the class, the students needed to come to the front and not only read their poem but also show off their illustrations to the class. All of the students were able to come to the front and read out their poems!
