👇No Borders International School
Hello! This is No Borders International School Toyota.
As the title implies today’s big focus was on our Halloween party in the afternoon. We also finished up learning about what we want to be in the future (occupations) and completed a projected based on this as well.
In the morning we started with our usual routine of having the students write sentences in their notebooks. These sentences included things such as; “Happy Halloween!”, “In the future I want to be a (profession).” and so on. Then we practiced our listening comprehension to see if the students could understand what was happening in a Halloween story.
This was followed up by the students needing to interview each other to ask “What do you want to be?” and write down their friend’s names as well as what profession they wanted to be.
Next we played a phonics game called “Word Race” where each team needed to write down as many words with the correct sound as they could in 2 minutes. The students are quite competitive so they were raring to go and they wrote down lots of words for each round like; goat, snow, fly, sight, sneeze and crow.
After this game we focused on dictation where the students needed to write the correct spelling for eight different words that were written down by the teams during the previous game.
After that we had lunch and enjoyed some play time before moving on to our project for this unit. Students needed to draw inside of a key hole what profession they want to be in the future and on the backside they needed to write, “In the future I want to be a ____________.” It’s encouraging to see that the students are picturing themselves in such aspiring positions when they become adults in the future. After writing this they needed to come read out what they wrote and showed their drawings to the teacher.
After finishing up the project it was time for the Halloween party to commence! First after being told what they were going to be doing for activities this afternoon, the upper class then proceeded to start with the haunted maze. They had a great time even though everyone said it was so scary.
Their next activity was some special Halloween arts and crafts time where they could color a Halloween coloring sheet or make something with Halloween themed with origami paper. They enjoyed having some time to stop being so scared from the previous activity.
The third activity was to play paper dance back in their usual classroom. This game is like musical chairs except instead of having to sit down in a chair they need to stand on a newspaper. As the game progresses the newspaper gets smaller and smaller as well as there are less newspapers for them to stand on. In the end they had a fun time and we crowned a winner!
Finally the last activity for the day was some classic Trick or Treating. They needed to approach the house and knock on the door while saying “I’m ___________. Trick or treat!” and then they received their present which was a bracelet with some colorful flashing lights you can turn on and off.
The students had a fun filled day of learning and special Halloween activities and we hope they enjoyed the day very much! We hope you enjoyed getting to see your child’s special Halloween day at No Borders and we look forward to giving you more updates in the future!
